Div Stack: One-Tap Stacking Game
Stack sliding blocks as high as you can. Tap, click or press Space to drop each block; whatever hangs over the edge is cut off, so every miss makes the next block narrower. Land it perfectly and it keeps its full width. A free browser game, no download or sign-up.
Tap the game, click it or press Space to drop the block.
How to play Div Stack
- Press Start game. A block slides left and right above the tower.
- Tap the game area, click it or press Space (or Enter) to drop the block.
- Only the part that lands on the block below stays. The overhang falls away, so the tower gets narrower with every imprecise drop.
- Miss the tower completely and the game is over. Blocks speed up as the tower grows.
Scoring and perfect drops
| Drop | Effect |
|---|---|
| Lands on the tower | +1 height; the block keeps only the overlapping part |
| Perfect (within 4 pixels) | Snaps into place with no width lost, perfect streak +1 |
| Three or more perfects in a row | The block grows a little wider again, up to the starting width |
| Misses the tower | Game over |
Tips for a taller tower
- Watch the edge of the block below, not the moving block. Drop when the two edges line up.
- The rhythm is steady: blocks bounce off the sides at a constant speed, so count the beat rather than reacting.
- A narrow tower is not lost. Perfect streaks rebuild the width, so slow down and aim for them.
- On a phone, tap with your thumb resting on the screen; it is faster than lifting your hand.
Why the blocks are called divs
Every web page is built from boxes. In HTML the general-purpose box is the <div> element, and CSS stacks them, nests them and decides what happens to content that does not fit. In this game that rule is overflow: hidden taken literally: anything outside the box below is clipped off. If your own layouts need tidying, the HTML Formatter and CSS Formatter make deeply nested markup easy to read.
Frequently asked questions
