How to make an image smaller

Choose a photo or drop it into the box. Pick JPG or WebP, adjust quality and the longest edge, then Compress image. The result shows the original and new file sizes, dimensions and percentage change. Download saves a new copy; your original file is untouched.

Need to get under a file-size limit?

Enter a target such as 200 KB. The compressor first tries progressively lower quality. If that is not enough, it reduces the pixel dimensions and tries again. It shows the actual file size and tells you if the target could not be reached. Review the preview before sending an important photo, since aggressive compression loses fine detail.

Choose a format that fits the image

JPG is useful for ordinary photos and fills transparent areas with white. WebP supports transparency and often produces compact files. PNG input is accepted, but the output is JPG or WebP rather than a lossless PNG optimizer. You can use Image Resizer for PNG output. Files already compressed heavily may become larger; the result reports the actual change.

A note about image handling

Only a still frame is exported from animated images. Canvas export does not copy original EXIF metadata. Input files are limited to 25 MB and decoded images to 40 million pixels; output is limited to 16 million pixels. A phone may need smaller files. HEIC support depends on the browser and is not promised.

Frequently asked questions

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Your browser reads, redraws and exports the image locally. The file is not sent to a processing server.

Can I process several images at once?

This version works with one image at a time, so you can inspect the result before downloading it. Choose another image to start again.
