Use the character count when a form has a strict length limit. Use the word count to check a draft against an assignment or brief. The repeated-word list helps you spot terms you may be overusing. For example, “A small task. A big difference.” contains six words.
What the numbers mean
Characters include spaces and line breaks and are counted as Unicode code points, so a combined emoji may count as more than one. Paragraphs are blocks separated by a blank line. Reading time is an estimate at 200 words per minute. Sentence and word boundaries are approximate and can differ from your editor; check the receiving app when its limits matter.

Is the text saved?
No. Your writing is processed in this tab and is not saved in browser storage or sent to our servers. Reloading clears it.
Does this work with languages other than English?
The counter uses your browser’s language-aware word segmentation where available, including scripts without spaces. Older browsers use a simpler fallback. Counts can vary between writing apps.
