Random Name Picker

A name, a winner, a place for lunch. Add your options and let a small bit of randomness help you decide.

On your device. Always.

Blank lines and identical duplicate entries are ignored. Each unique entry has the same chance.

How to pick a random name

Enter one name or option per line. Choose how many you want and click Pick a name. Each draw selects unique entries from your list. Copy result copies the picked entries, one per line, so you can paste them elsewhere.

Keep a list moving

Turn on Remove picked names to remove each selected entry from the input after a draw. This is useful for classroom turns, assigning a presentation order or working through a list of ideas without repeats. When the list runs out, add more entries or use Try an example.

How the selection works

The picker trims whitespace, ignores blank lines and removes exact duplicate entries. “Alex” and “alex” remain separate because names are case-sensitive. A browser cryptographic random source chooses an unbiased index for each draw; the chosen entry is then removed from that draw’s pool before the next selection. Nothing about the list is sent to our servers.

Frequently asked questions

Can the same name win twice?

An identical entry cannot appear twice in the same draw. It can appear in a later draw unless Remove picked names is enabled.

Can I use a list of ideas instead of names?

Yes. Each line can contain any text, including a meal, a destination or an activity. Long entries wrap in the result.
